FREDERICK STROPPEL
Frederick Stroppel is a playwright/screenwriter whose latest play, Fall River, had its world premiere at Penguin Rep in October 2017, and is scheduled to move to NYC in 2018. Small World, a comedy about Walt Disney and Igor Stravinsky, directed by Joe Brancato, completed a successful run in New York at Theater 59E59 in September 2017. And his evening of one-acts Senior Moments will be performed at the legendary Moscow Arts Theatre in the spring of 2018.
Other theater work includes Fortune’s Fools, produced off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theater in 1995; the musical Tales From The Manhattan Woods, staged by Opera NY in 2004 at the Wings Theatre; Actor!, The Christmas Spirit, The Hunter’s Moon, and Teddy and the River. For film, he has written the screenplays for A Brooklyn State of Mind, Dark Side of Genius, and the short film Glacier Bay, which has won over a dozen festival awards including Best Screenplay.
Recent award-winning short films include Mother of the Week and A World of Pleasure. He is the creator of the comedy web series Suburban Legends, for which he has written and directed all 22 episodes.
He is also a veteran children’s television writer, having served as the head writer for Nickelodeon’s Oswald and Wow Wow Wubbzy! He is a member of the Dramatists Guild and the Writers Guild of America East. He was born in Glen Cove, NY, where he still resides with his wife Liz and son Joe, a dog, a cat, and a bearded dragon.
